Program description

Tracing the Road of Those Enslaved

Explore the histories, cultures and historical memory of West Africa through place-based learning. Tracing the Road of Those Enslaved examines the history and continuing effects of the transatlantic slave trade while exploring connections between African communities, their heritage and the African diaspora.

Through historical places, cultural perspectives and regional experiences, the project creates opportunities for reflection, learning and a deeper understanding of shared history.

Understanding history through place and perspective

Historical learning involves more than visiting historical sites. It includes understanding the people, communities, cultures and historical circumstances connected to those places.

This experience examines West African history and culture, the history of the transatlantic slave trade and its continuing effects, historical memory and connections with the African diaspora. African and local perspectives are essential to interpreting these histories with accuracy and respect.

Ask AOH to confirm the current route, sites, educators or guides, and learning activities. This description does not imply a set schedule or guaranteed site access.
