Our destinations

Three countries. Different perspectives. Meaningful learning across West Africa.

Ghana, Togo, and Benin are neighboring countries, each with distinct histories, cultures, and educational contexts. Together they offer varied perspectives for academic study, historical understanding, and cultural exchange. AOH develops learning possibilities in response to institutional objectives and local arrangements.

Photographs on this page are temporary illustrations and are not evidence of current AOH activities.

Destination 01

Ghana

Ghana offers educational and community learning contexts alongside a rich history. Past program materials describe public health and education placements in Keta, as well as historical learning connected to Cape Coast.

These past experiences and proposals can inform academic exploration of educational settings, community health, and Ghana’s history. Current activities, participant roles, permissions, and local arrangements depend on institutional needs and availability.

Destination 02

Togo

Togo’s educational and cultural contexts feature in AOH’s past program descriptions and proposals. These have included education and professional placements in Lomé and Kpalimé, as well as culinary learning introducing local cuisine and food traditions.

Cultural immersion and educational experiences may be considered around participants’ learning objectives. Activities, roles, permissions, host arrangements, and availability must be confirmed with AOH and local partners.

Destination 03

Benin

Historical and cultural learning in Benin can support study of the region’s diverse histories and heritage. AOH’s past regional academic program materials include learning connected to Ouidah and other historically significant locations.

Ouidah is significant to the history of the transatlantic slave trade and its connections across West Africa and the African diaspora. These experiences invite reflection on the historical perspectives that shape contemporary understanding. Site visits, access, and learning arrangements depend on institutional objectives, permissions, and availability.

Learning across borders

Connect perspectives through customized academic study

AOH can discuss academic experiences connecting two or more of these countries, subject to institutional goals, local arrangements, permissions, and current availability.

An example of customized programming

A regional model for connected learning

A past University of South Alabama program model connected Ghana, Togo, and Benin through historical study, cultural exchange, heritage visits, and reflection. It illustrates one approach to multi-country academic programming—not a standing itinerary or a guarantee that the same activities or route are currently available.

  • Historical study
  • Cultural exchange
  • Heritage visits
  • Reflection

AOH can discuss whether a customized regional experience is suitable for your institution and what may be arranged with local partners.
