Accountability

Transparency and Impact

AOH is committed to responsible stewardship, collaboration, and sharing information about its programs and impact.

Our Commitment to Transparency

At Africa Our Home (AOH), we believe that transparency, accountability and responsible management are essential to building trust with our participants, institutional partners, supporters and the communities with whom we work.

We are committed to communicating honestly about our mission, programs, activities and organizational responsibilities. We recognize that meaningful international education and cultural exchange depend not only on the quality of learning experiences but also on the integrity of the organizations that coordinate them.

Our approach to transparency reflects our commitment to responsible program development, respectful collaboration and the careful stewardship of organizational resources.

About the Organization

Africa Our Home (AOH) is a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunities, promoting digital empowerment and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

AOH develops and supports initiatives that connect people and communities through education, knowledge sharing and international collaboration.

AOH Global Programs operates under Africa Our Home and coordinates educational, cultural immersion, internship and service-learning experiences in West Africa, particularly in Ghana, Togo and Benin.

Other initiatives supported by AOH include MonTogo.net, a digital literacy platform providing accessible technology education and learning resources.

Each initiative contributes to AOH's broader mission while responding to different educational and community needs.

Our Programs and Activities

AOH works across several areas of education and international collaboration.

Our activities include:

  • International Education: Coordinating faculty-led and customized educational experiences for universities and other institutions.
  • Internships and Professional Placements: Exploring supervised learning opportunities in fields such as public health, clinical health and education, subject to institutional agreements and local arrangements.
  • Cultural and Historical Learning: Developing experiences that encourage engagement with West African history, cultural heritage and contemporary society.
  • Digital Literacy: Expanding access to practical digital knowledge and technology education through MonTogo.net.
  • Community and Environmental Engagement: Supporting educational and community activities in collaboration with local organizations and community members.

Programs are developed according to institutional objectives, local arrangements, participant needs and operational feasibility. Not every proposed activity or opportunity is available at all times.

Our Work in Practice

Our work is reflected in programs and initiatives developed with educational institutions, local collaborators and communities.

Examples include:

International University Programs

AOH has coordinated educational experiences involving institutions including Seattle Colleges, Maryville University and the University of South Alabama.

These experiences have included public health learning in Keta, Ghana, clinical health-related educational placements in Lomé, Togo, and multi-country historical and cultural learning across Ghana, Togo and Benin.

Each program has been developed around its specific institutional objectives and local arrangements.

Environmental and Community Engagement

AOH has organized beach clean-up and tree-planting activities with previous participants in collaboration with local environmental organizations.

These activities provided opportunities for participants to engage with environmental and community initiatives alongside local collaborators.

Digital Literacy and Education

Through MonTogo.net, an initiative supported by AOH, we develop and share French-language digital literacy tutorials and educational resources.

The platform addresses practical technology skills and helps make digital knowledge more accessible to learners across French-speaking Africa.

These examples represent documented areas of AOH's work. They should not be interpreted as guarantees that identical activities, placements or arrangements are currently available.

Local Collaboration and Partnerships

AOH recognizes that meaningful international programs must be grounded in local knowledge, relationships and participation.

Our work involves engagement with local educators, health professionals, educational institutions, community organizations and other collaborators in our program destinations.

Depending on the objectives and requirements of a program, local collaborators may contribute to educational activities, professional learning, cultural exchange and community engagement.

We aim to ensure that activities are appropriate to their local context, respectful of community priorities and consistent with the objectives of participating institutions.

Formal partnerships and specific institutional arrangements are established according to the needs and circumstances of each program.

Responsible Program Management

The well-being of participants, respect for local communities and responsible coordination are central to AOH's approach.

Our program management practices include:

  • Participant Support: Providing in-country assistance and 24-hour emergency support throughout organized programs.
  • Health and Safety: Maintaining relationships with local health facilities and assisting participants in accessing appropriate emergency medical care when needed.
  • Cultural Respect: Encouraging responsible engagement with local customs, traditions, religious practices and community expectations.
  • Local Coordination: Working with local staff and collaborators to organize activities and assist participants during programs and excursions.
  • Responsible Learning: Ensuring that educational activities respect the roles, responsibilities and professional requirements of host institutions.
  • Resource Stewardship: Managing organizational resources responsibly in support of AOH's mission and activities.

Program arrangements are developed according to the destination, institutional requirements and nature of each experience.
